199.18 kWp Solar PV Layout and Mounting Design for an Education Building in Greater Manchester

PVSol rooftop layout for a 199.18 kWp solar PV design using JA Solar 460 W bifacial modules and K2 flat roof mounting on an education building.

Nortcel was asked to prepare a solar PV layout based on an existing SolarEdge design report, using JA Solar 460 W bifacial modules and K2 flat roof mounting.

The scope focused on the solar panel layout and mounting arrangement only. Inverters, BESS, consumption modelling and financial analysis were not required for this stage.

The challenge

The project needed to follow the general layout intent of the supplied SolarEdge report while adapting the design into PVSol with the specified JA Solar bifacial module and K2 mounting approach.

The roof construction was treated as bitumen, with a flat roof mounting system required. The mounting specification included the K2 Xpress system with Porters, so the layout needed to support both the target module arrangement and the required mounting method.

The solution

Nortcel developed a 199.18 kWp rooftop solar PV layout using 433 JA Solar JAM54D41-460/LR bifacial modules.

The design was arranged across multiple roof areas and modelled with K2 flat roof mounting components, including S-Dome and Porter elements for the bitumen roof specification.

Project results

The PVSol model estimated annual solar generation of 174,542 kWh / year.

The system had a specific annual yield of 875.48 kWh/kWp, a performance ratio of 91.66% and modelled shading losses of 1.6%.

Estimated avoided emissions were 30,865 kg CO₂ / year.

Design outcome

The design provided a clear PV layout and mounting basis for quotation, helping translate the supplied SolarEdge reference layout into a project-specific PVSol model using the required module and mounting specification.

The output supported client review, panel quantity confirmation and next-stage mounting coordination.
