416.70 kWp Solar PV Design for an Industrial Manufacturing Site in Stockport

PVSol rooftop layout for a 416.70 kWp solar PV system designed for an industrial manufacturing site in Stockport.

Nortcel was asked to prepare a solar PV design for a large industrial manufacturing site in Stockport, where only 1 month of half-hourly consumption data was available.

The client confirmed the site had substantial monthly electricity use, so Nortcel created a synthetic 12-month consumption profile to support PVSol modelling and early-stage energy assessment.

The challenge

The project needed more than a standard roof layout. The available demand data was limited, so the annual consumption profile had to be extrapolated before the solar PV opportunity could be assessed properly.

The design also needed to reflect the operating pattern of an industrial manufacturing site, where electricity use is typically more consistent than a standard commercial building.

The solution

Nortcel developed a 416.70 kWp roof-mounted solar PV design across 2 main roof areas.

The PVSol model used a synthetic 12-month consumption profile based on the available HHD, client-confirmed site demand and researched industrial operating behaviour. This allowed the solar PV design to be tested against a more realistic annual demand profile rather than a single month of data.

Project results

The PVSol simulation estimated annual solar generation of 366,042 kWh / year.

The model showed 252,590 kWh / year used onsite and 113,453 kWh / year exported to the grid. This resulted in 69.0% own power consumption and 24.5% self-sufficiency.

Estimated avoided emissions were 64,757 kg CO₂ / year.

Energy profile

Monthly energy profile chart for a 416.70 kWp industrial rooftop solar PV system

Monthly energy profile showing PV generation, onsite use, grid export and consumption coverage for the 416.70 kWp rooftop solar PV design.

The energy profile shows how solar generation varies across the year and how much of the PV output is used onsite compared with grid export. It also shows how the synthetic annual consumption profile is covered by solar PV and grid supply.

Design outcome

The design showed that the site could support a substantial rooftop PV system with strong onsite use, even where only limited half-hourly demand data was available at the start.

The output provided a clearer technical basis for client review, energy assessment and next-stage project development.
